First things first, how does it actually look on fabric, in natural lighting? How does it compare to the digitized color card rendition? Well, here's how my swatches on 100% cotton squares turned out:
Here's the results of an ice dyed sample featuring only Magenta Galactica:
Compared to some other dye colors that might be considered in the same realm of berry / hot pink / fuchsia type of shades, Magenta Galactica is, in my opinion, most similar to Amethyst. Or, I'd also describe it as a more vivid version of Razzle Dazzle with a touch of Dragonfruit.
To be real, though, my very first thought when I laid my eyes on the fabric square samples was: it looks like exactly the same shade as Barney the dinosaur! — Wait, so does that technically make it a purple!? I dunno, but I do consider it the perfect purply-pink hybrid of both!
In honor of the two most recently released fiber reactive dye colors, I dyed a few different designs showcasing both Bluebird & Magenta Galactica!
Meanwhile, the geode pattern tie dye bandanas pictured below consist of only Bluebird and Magenta Galactica!
These bandanas are both available here & here! ($9 each + shipping)
On a scale of 1 to 5 stars (five being the best), I personally award Magenta Galactica a 5/5!
This is because of the rich, intense, smooth and consistent color it produces as a liquid dye. Also due to the fact it really is a distinctly unique color, unlike any other currently available. While on the other hand, some dye colors can be incredibly similar to one another, like Raspberry vs. Razzle Dazzle, or Lapis and Brilliant Blue, for example.
When it comes to ice dyeing, I’d also rate ability and the overall color it produces a 5/5, even despite the fact the dye powder is a bit on the denser side, making it a bit more tricky to sprinkle evenly. That seems to be a standard characteristic amongst nearly all of the deep, intensely vibrant or dark dye colors, in my experience, though.
Well, that's all I've got for my first thoughts and impressions and overall review of the brand new fiber reactive dye color, Magenta Galactica! You can find it available for purchase on the Dharma Trading Co. website.
I'm interested to know - if you've tried it already, what do you think of Magenta Galactica? If not, did this post make you feel any more or less compelled to add it to your dye collection? Let me know in the comments below!

Wondering what the heck the difference is (if any) between the former Fiber Reactive Dye formulas and the new, reformulated versions of some colors? I went balls-to-the-wall to figure out the answer for myself — Then, I reported back and shared all of my findings, thoughts and observations in this blog post!
